Bluelights
i can understand you wanting to leave the blue lights on all day. But do the corals agree with that?

ik snap het wel dat je de blauwe lampen de hele dag aan wilt laten. Maar snappen de koralen dat?

🪸 Closing a Chapter... 1,300 Litres Less!

After many years of enjoying this reef aquarium, I've decided to dismantle it before January 1, 2027.

With over 5,000 litres of saltwater in my home, I think it's time to scale things down a little.

The Dutch net metering scheme for solar energy will end in 2027, making this a logical moment to reconsider my energy consumption. But it's not just about electricity costs. Sometimes it's simply time to make a few changes.

This means saying goodbye to 1,300 litres of reef aquarium. And believe me, there will still be plenty left to enjoy!

Of course, taking apart such a mature reef isn't something you do lightly. Some of these corals have been growing for many years and have developed into impressive colonies.

A selection of my favourite corals will be relocated to my other aquariums, allowing me to preserve part of this beautiful reef.

After more than 20 years in the saltwater hobby, this certainly isn't goodbye. I'm simply becoming a little more selective about the space, energy and time I dedicate to it.

The aquarium will continue running for now, giving me enough time to carefully plan the transition.

And let's face it... with almost 4,000 litres remaining, I can hardly call this downsizing to a small hobby!

The photos show some of the mature coral colonies that have made this aquarium such a pleasure to maintain over the years.

Sometimes moving forward means making room for a new chapter. 🪸
